Ready to enact EnhanceFitness at your organization? Here are the
steps you need to take:
- Obtain a Project Enhance license from Senior Services (Seattle,
WA). This requires signing a license agreement, citing site
locations, and paying for the training and licensing fees. To
learn more about the many available EnhanceFitness packages and
associated licensing fees, please visit the
Expenses page.
- Recruit a
certified fitness instructor(s).
If the instructor(s) is not certified by a nationally recognized
fitness organization, begin the certification process. In addition,
the instructor must have current CPR certification.
- Negotiate a personal service contract with the instructor(s)
that includes wage, hours, days.
- Send the instructor to
the EnhanceFitness
New Instructor Training.
Instructors will receive 12 hours of in-depth training and the
EnhanceFitness Instructor Manual.
- Purchase soft wrist and ankle weights (approximately $850).
Weights can be ordered through the Project Enhance administrative
office. For more information, go to the
FAQs page.
- Schedule classes (3 days/week, 1 hour/class).
- Recruit participants. Try for 12 to 20 participants per class,
but smaller classes can work well, too.
- Collect class fees, if appropriate. Class fees are decided by
each site and are collected from participants unless program expenses
are funded through another source.
- Conduct baseline fitness checks (outcome measures) within the first three classes.
- Complete required program paperwork — participant information
forms, letters to physicians, health history forms, fitness checks,
evaluation forms, and attendance forms.
- Be monitored by an EnhanceFitness Master Trainer.
- Attend the EnhanceFitness Annual Workshop in Seattle, WA (optional for non-local
sites). This workshop provides the latest research on physical
activity and older adults and provides the opportunity for instructors
to network with their peers.
